Bob attended IL State University and received his Bachelor Degree in 1941 and Master's Degree in 1952. He taught High School aeronautics, math, chemistry, and physics for 17 years at Danvers and Vandalia. He then taught chemistry and physics at IL State University, retiring in 1978.
