Mrs. Middendorf called by Death Mrs. Henry Middendorf, Sr. , age 84 years of Freeport died at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 26th. Death came suddendly at the home of her son, august, in Millwood township. Rev. Linus Schieffler, OSB officiated at the funeral held at the Sacred Heart church at Freeport Tuesday morning. Father Linus was assisted at a solemn requiem by Rev. Irwin Braun and Rev. Berthold Ricker, OSB. Verla Middendorf, a grandaughter, was crossbearer and the following grandsons were active pall bearers; John George and Walter Middendorf, Ervin Hiltner, Herman Brickweg and Anton Klaphake. The honorary pallbearers were Mmes. X Ballman, X Hoeschen, Ben Racker, Mike Gresser, George Laing, John Elfering, Joe Ricker and Elizabeth Hemker. The maiden name of the deceased was Mary Westendorf and she was born at Verden, Hanover, Germany, July 18, 1870. She came to this country in October 1893 and settled at Melrose. She married Henry Middendorf at the St. Boniface church here January 30, 1894. They moved to Freeport in 1925. Mr. Middendorf died March 1, 1942. The children surviving are Fred, Mrs. Elizabeth Brickweg, Joseph (Josepha) Hiltner of New Munich; Mrs. Herman (Anna) Klaphake if Meire Grove; Mrs. Alois (Cecelia) Goebel, Mrs. George (Marie) Heidgerken, Herman, August and Mrs. Henry (Clara) Michaels of Freeport. There are 78 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. A brother, Joseph Westendorf of Melrose, also survives. she was a member of the Christian Mothers society of Freeport.
