Jack Murray White, age 84, died at home in Kernersville on October 17, 2012. His family was at his side. Jack was born in Winston Salem to F.M. White and Kathryn Watson. He led an accomplished life, founded in his abiding love for history, his family, the Moravian Church, and Education. He held leadership positions in the Moravian Church, National Council of Churches, the Provincial Elders Conference, and Sunnyside Ministry. He was a member of Friedland, Home, and Kernersville Moravian Churches, and led the Men's Bible Class Radio Ministry at Home Church for 27 years. He was a member of the Band, the Choir, men's candle-makers, and an Elder. He was President of the Rotary Club of Winston-Salem, Chapter Chairman of the American Red Cross, on the Boards of Department of Social Services, the Salvation Army, Boys Club, Mental Health Association, Catholic Social Services, Christian Education, Homeland Missions, and Salemtowne. He was a recipient of the Service to Mankind Award. He served as Headmaster of Oak Ridge Military Academy, Assistant to the President of Salem College and Academy, and as a chemistry teacher in the Forsyth County Schools. He was a faithful member of the Oriental Shrine Club of Greensboro, the Winston Salem Valley of the Scottish Rites, and a Mason. He held a BA in chemistry from Guilford College and MED from UNC Chapel Hill. Mr. White is survived by his wife Betty Martin White: his daughters the Rev. Anna Terman-White (Russell) of Omaha Nebraska, Elizabeth Marie White of the Currituck Outer Banks; his sister Mary Ellen Jordan (Dean); his nephews-Jeff Jordan (Debbie), Scott Jordan. He has a deep love for Perquimans County and his cousins and family there. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 21 at 3:00 p.m. at Kernersville Moravian Church. Burial to follow in Friedland's Graveyard. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the Botanical Gardens in Kernersville. The family will also receive friends on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Salem Funeral Home. Memorials can be made in his name to Sunnyside Ministry.
