Gainesville - Mary Glenn Hardin Sinder, age 84, passed on peacefully into eternity at her home on October 27, 2007.

Mrs. Sinder was born in Elora, TN on June 12th, 1923, to George Dewey and Betty Hardin. She attended Flintville High School, graduating in 1940. Later that year she enrolled at the University of Tennessee majoring in home economics. Upon graduation in 1944, she accepted a position at the Oakridge Tennessee Laboratories, where major components for the United States Atomic Bomb program were developed.

Following World War II, she left Oakridge for the beginning of the greatest adventure of her life. There she met and married Leon Sinder of New York City and formerly of Romania. Mr. Sinder, deceased, was a Fulbright Scholar with a doctorate degree from the University of Utah in anthropology. Together they traveled the world, especially Asia. They were together as husband and wife for more than 53 years. While in New York City, Mary Glenn worked for many years for Good Housekeeping magazine as an editor in the consumer products division. Mary and Leon were very entrepreneurial having owned and operated various businesses including an Asian Tea House in both New York City and San Diego, an import/export business and several restaurants.

Mary was an extremely bright, dedicated, loving and caring woman. Mary fought a good fight against cancer and was determined that she would win this fight and never gave up, her family and friends were very proud of her determination. She was a committed Democrat for more than 60 years and a great philanthropist, contributing to many non-profit organizations on a regular basis. Mary had a deep affection for all the animals of the world and especially the many Cocker Spaniels she and Leon had owned through the years.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Leon, on October 3, 2001. Mrs. Sinder is survived by her brother Billy George Hardin of Gainesville, nephews Andrew J. Hardin and William Alec London and their families, also of Gainesville, and countless friends and relatives throughout the world. Mary had a very contented life in Gainesville for the past six years and was well looked after by family and her wonderful neighbor Vangie Weiner, allowing her to spend the rest of her life at home.

Mary will be greatly missed by her family and all the friends she made living in Gainesville the past 6 years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mary's name may be made to Haven Hospice of North Central Florida.
