PETSCH. EUGENE E. Passed away peacefully at home April 27, 2000 in Covelo, age 78 years. He was the dearly beloved husband of Maureen for 53 years; father of Karol Petsch, Daniel Petsch, Diane Petsch Williams and Pamela Petsch Moretti; grandfather of six grandchildren. Eugene was born in Fredricksburg, Texas on June 21, 1921. He attended South West Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, Texas, where he received his BBA and MBA degrees. He was a teacher and principal for 20 years in Texas, and in 1964 moved to Covelo after accepting a teaching position for the Round Valley High School District. His interests included hiking, hunting, fishing, talking politics, and belonging to many organizations and participating in community events and functions.
During the past year, he was very active in programs to protect, restore, and enhance the long-term well being of the Upper Eel River watershed.

Services for Eugene were a Rosary at 7:PM Sunday April 30 at the Anker Lucier Mortuary in Willits, and the funeral will be held at 11:00AM on Monday May 1 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Covelo. Officiating at the funeral were the Rev. Gary Logan (Pastor of St Anthony's Church in Willits and Our Lady Queen of Peace in Covelo) and Eugene's brother, Msgr Joseph P Petsch of San Antonio, Texas.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at West Home Health Care for their caring and support throughout Eugene's illness. In lieu of flowers the family would ask that donations in his memory be made to West Home Care, Phoenix Hospice in Willits.
