GEORGE D. HICKS, Sharpsburg Rt. 1, former judge of the juvenile court, and a member of the House of Delegates, died Sunday night at Washington County Hospital, aged 73 years.


Born in Washington County, he was the son of Cadmus and Mary Dennis Metcalf Hicks. He was a member of the Broadfording Church of the Brethren.


Mr. Hicks was a lawyer by profession, and a member of the Washington County Bar Assn. He served as judge of the Juvenile Court for 4 years, and as a member of the House of Delegates for 4 terms.


In earlier years, he was employed at the Hagerstown Post Office, and it was while he was a postal clerk that he studied law and passed the state bar examination.


He was a Republican and was elected to the Hose of Delegates as such. He served his county with distinction and held many important committee posts during his four terms.


Mr. Hicks was a man of wide intellectual interests, and since his retirement a few years ago, lived along the Potomac River at Snyder's Landing, and indulged his hobby of organic gardening. He took considerable pride in the vegetables and melons he grew.


He is survived by his wife, Florence H. Hicks, Sharpsburg; sons, Thomas H. and Cadmus, both of Hagerstown; step-son, Arthur Kiracofe, Washington, DC; daughter, Mrs. Paul G. Jones, Hagerstown; sister, Mrs. Agnes Gearhart, Hagerstown; brothers, J. D. Hicks and E. Russell Hicks, both of Hagerstown; 4 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.


Services Wednesday at 2 pm at Kraiss Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. J. Stanley Earhart and the Rev. Charles M. LeFew. Interment in Rest Haven Cemetery.
