She was described by her five children as determined, strong character and independent. Minnie married the man of her chosing, helping him forge a successful farming operation and bearing five children before her untimely death. Her pastor described her as a good wife, mother , neighbor and Christian character.

My grandmother Elsie liked to tell the story of her mother Minna driving the car all the way to Hutchinson in second gear since that was her only way to get there. The result was damaging to the engine, yet the determined spirit of Minna could not be denied. William S. Pickering often remarked that his mother was a particular strength in the family and the motivation to do well with the farming operation.

My grandmother told me that her mother Minnie was a beautiful woman very active in the Church and community activities.

Her husband was also attractive and very popular at the highschool that he attended.
