This community was deeply shocked Wednesday afternoon, when it learned that Carl Janssen had been found dead in the garage at his home on North Main street. He had taken his life by hanging.
Since the death of his father, George Janssen, in 1934, Carl had been an officer of the Mayville Building & Loan association, Eastern Wisconsin Mutual Insurance company, the Janssen-Seitz company, and the Mayville Limited Mutual Insurance company. He had been exceptionally busy recently, and it is believed the strain proved too much for him.
Carl was born in Oakfield on Feb. 14, 1897, a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Janssen. He attended the local schools and also studied at Ripon college before joining the navy during the World War. He then returned home, and has resided here since that time.
On Aug. 14, 1924, he was married to Helen Griesbach, who survives with their son, George William. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. George Janssen, and a brother, Victor, in Minneapolis.
Last rites were conducted by the Rev. H. A. Michelke at the home on Friday afternoon, and burial took place in Graceland cemetery. John A. Thiel spoke briefly at the cemetery.
