She was born March 15, 1913, in Danzig, Germany, to Fritz and Hermine Blockus. She married Edwald G. Thun on Jan. 15, 1938, in Danzig.
She came to the United States with her husband on one of the last ships allowed to leave Germany in 1938. They lived in Chicago for 29 years before moving to their farm in Seneca Township in 1964. She loved needle point, decorating, and taking care of her home. She also was a fantastic cook and baker. She was famous for her apple pie, cheese danish, and chocolate Easter lamb pound cake on a bed of jellybeans. She made one for all the children in the neighborhood every year for Easter. She was an active member of Grace Circle and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock. But mainly her life was centered around taking care of her loving family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Edward (Mary Alice) Thun of Chicago; a daughter, Sharie (Greg) Morgan of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Alisa Thun, Benjamin (Mine) Thun, Catherine (Henry IV) Anderson, Summer Morgan and Stacy (Travis) Brown; and four great-grandchildren, Criseyde Anderson, Henry Anderson, Alina Thun and Nathan Thun.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwald G. Thun on May 2, 2005; a son, Kenneth Thun on Nov. 28, 1989; a grandson, Daniel Thun in 1997; and a brother, Paul Blokus in 2001.
The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock. The visitation will continue from 10 a.m. Thursday, March 5, until the funeral at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 1300 Kishwaukee Valley Road, Woodstock. The Rev. Ken Gibson will officiate. Burial will be in McHenry County Memorial Park in Woodstock.
