Julian C. Koenig, 92, of Wapakoneta, died 4:55 p.m., Thurs. Aug. 29, 2013, at Joint Twp. District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, OH. He was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Wapakoneta, the son of William C. & Katherine (Frankenburg) Koenig, who preceded him in death. Survivors include 3 brothers, Bernard Koenig, Wapakoneta,Paul (Kathleen) Koenig, Wapakoneta,Virgil (Sharon) Koenig, Uniopolis, OH,2 sisters, Sister Dorothy Koenig, C.PP.S., Viola Koenig, both of Sun City, AZ, and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers & sisters-in-law,William (Lucille) Koenig, Adrian (Marie) Koenig, Omer "Toby" (Delores) Koenig, and infant Cyril Koenig, and 2 sisters, Sister Gemma Koenig, C.PP.S., and infant Angela Koenig, and a sister-in-law, Patricia Koenig. A lifelong farmer, Julian worked as an engineer at WZIP radio station in Covington, KY. In 1982, he retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta. A 1938 graduate of St. Joseph High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1942-1945. He was a member of the K of C, Council #1272, Wapakoneta, and the former Holy Name Society. He also enjoyed meeting with his friends for lunch at the Lucky Steer, Wapakoneta, and raising sheep on his farm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wed. Sept. 4, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta, Rev. Daniel Hunt officiating. Burial is to follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Wapakoneta, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W. Post #8445. The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m., Tues. at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta. Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
