FORT RIPLEY -- Louise "Lou" Marie Koering, 66, Fort Ripley, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at her daughter's home in Brainerd.
She was born Nov. 3, 1936, in Brainerd to Albert and Vera C. (Congdon) Gmahl. She married Bernard F. Koering on June 11, 1953, in St. Mathias. She had several occupations including making custom draperies, driving school bus, selling Avon and selling insurance. In 1974, the couple bought and operated the St. Mathias Store for six years. In the spring of 1987, she began working for Title Atlas Co. in Battle Lake. She traveled to different counties in different farming states selling atlases for 15 years. She was a member of St. Mathias Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Mike Koering, Tim Koering and Brad Koering, all of Brainerd, and Sen. Paul Koering, Fort Ripley; a daughter, Brenda L. Cooper, Brainerd; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas Gmahl, Mora.
Her parents died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Fort Ripley with the Rev. Paul Fruth and Father Mike Kellog officiating. Burial will be in St. Mathias Cemetery in Fort Ripley. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and an hour before services Friday at the church.
