CUTCHOGUE- Col Justus W Kranz, a nine-year resident of Cutchogue, died December 13 at Eastern Long Island Hospital. He was 77.

Col Kranz was born August 11, 1902 in Sandstadt, Germany, the son of Christopher and Amelia Kranz. He moved to Cutchogue from Floral Park L I.

Col Kranz retired from the US Army in 1955. He held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and served as transportation officer with the Military Advisory Assistance Group in Brussels, Belgium.

He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Aquebogue; Griswold-Terry-Glover American Legion Post in Southold; the Veterans Association of the 71st Regiment in New York; and a charter member of the Retired Officers Club of Long Island.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothea Krueger Kranz; a daughter Janice of Boulder, Colo; a sister, Theresa Saul of Cutchogue; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held December 15 at DeFriest Funeral Home in Southold, with the Rev Charles Bell officiating. Interment as in Cutchogue Cemetery.
