George Anton Barta, 82, passed away from this life on Friday, September 13, 2013 at his residence in Ballinger.


He was born on June 4, 1931 to Anton and Rosie (Cernoch) Barta in Pearsall, Texas.


George honorably served his country, in the Marines, during the Korean War.


After his military service, he returned to Ballinger and on March 6, 1965 he married Jo Ann Conway.


He had been an employee of the Ballinger Police Dept., Bailey Automotive and Mueller Supply Co.


George previously served as a volunteer fire fighter for the Ballinger area and was an active member of the 9th Street Church of Christ.


George was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Anton J. "Babe" Barta.


He is survived by his wife Jo Ann and his daughter, Priscilla Jones and husband Charlie of San Angelo. Also surviving are his granddaughter Heather Horton and husband, Edwin and grandson Aaron Jones and wife, Becky; four great grandchildren, Dylan, Jacqueline, Dirk and Hannah.


George is also survived by his brothers, John Barta, Henry Barta, and Evan Barta; and sisters, Elizabeth Fields and Dorothy Offield.


Visitation will be Saturday, September 14 from 7:30 to 8:30 pm at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Services will be at 1:00 pm, Sunday, September 15 at 9th. Street Church of Christ in Ballinger with Max Pratt officiating. Burial will follow at Old Runnels Cemetery.


Memorials can be made Ballinger Hospice or a favorite charity.
