Jane Abel married Adam Gann the elder in about 1750 and lived in Frederick County, Colony of Virginia. Their first child was born within their first year of marriage. Pioneers were moving to new frontiers in North and South Carolina. Adam, Jane and family were in North Carolina before 1776 when records show Adam Gann bought several hundred acres of land in Halifax County, Virginia, just above the North Carolina line. Jane's last baby, another son, was born a year later. Their family took sides against England in the Revolutionary War and their older sons joined the North Carolina forces. The war was under way when Jane died in 1780. She was about forty-eight years old. Her oldest son was thirty-one, her youngest only three.
