A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2013 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa for Roy Warzecha who died peacefully surrounded by his family at the CentraCare nursing home in Melrose. Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery at a later date. Military honors will be provided by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Parish prayers will be held at 3 p.m. followed by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard at 6 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Roy Roman Warzecha was born January 18, 1922 in Elizabeth, Minnesota to Frank, Sr. and Stella (Stein) Warzecha. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On August 26, 1952 he was united in marriage to Geneva Gretsch at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa. Roy worked for D.H. Blatner for 42 years as a bulldozer operator. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa, Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050, and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49. Roy enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, playing cards, and dancing with Geneva. Roy loved working with his hands on inventions in his shop and was known for his green thumb, he could grow anything. He loved animals, especially his dog, Blacky.

Survivors include his children, Cindy (Phil) Nevin of Ramsey, Ferd (Jane) Warzecha of Westminster, Colorado, Judy (Roger) Erickson of Sauk Centre, Tony Warzecha of St. Rosa, Anna (Roger) Blenker of Melrose, Laura (Dan) Fuchs of St. Rosa, and Randy (Angela) Warzecha of Aracaju, Brazil; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother and sisters, Frank, Jr. (Marcella) Warzecha of St. Wendel, Frances Shea of Foley, Lois (Al) Wolf of Coon Rapids, and Elaine Corrigan of Foley; and sister-in-law, Valeria Butkowski of Pillager.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva "Gerleen" Warzecha on April 26, 2005; parents; daughter, Mary Warzecha; and brothers, Claude Warzecha, Joe (Evelyn) Warzecha, and Vincent Warzecha; brother-in-law, Jim Corrigan; and good friend, Ernie Lindstrom.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association .
