May 16, 2013 2:00 am Elko, Nevada - After a long and fruitful life of 95 years, five year Elko Nevada resident Billie Brown Simmons passed away Wednesday the 8th of May at Northern Nevada Regional Hospital. No great suffering, she just quietly slipped off into the hereafter after a sudden mild illness. A graveside memorial service was held at Burns Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 14th.Born in 1917 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania Billie moved to California at two years of age. At age 17 she met her husband of 63 years, Adalbert (Alby) Fernandez Brown. After Alby's passing in 1999 Billie remarried Richard Simmons (the star of Sergeant Preston of the Yukon) who also proceeded her in death in 2003.Billie had so many talents, skills and accomplishments it would take pages to list them. A mother and a wife. A Cub Scout leader, Brownie leader, Boy Scout Leader and Girl Scout leader. PTA President and the only non-teacher to ever win the Teacher of the Year award at her children's High School. Adult education volunteer, Inglewood Women's Club member and Tau Gamma Kappa active member. An unsurpassed and downright legendary entertainer with the ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved. Mobile home park manager. Game show contestant (and winner). Seamstress and crafts devotee. A voracious reader who could read a book a day even near the end. In short, a woman for all seasons who lived more than a few lives in her long and accomplished 95 years. We were all blessed by her presence in our lives. She will be missed.Billie is survived by son Barry (Carol) Brown of Lahaina, Hawaii; daughter Bonnie (Darryl) Boyd of Spring Creek, Nevada; three grandchildren, Maya Brown (daughter of Trish Brown), Holly Boyd and Amber Strasser and five Great Grandchildren, Tosh and Judah Tudor and Rebecca, Iris and Corina Strasser.
