ANTON W. SPORER
(1866 - 1940)

Anton W. Sporer, 73, veteran cabinetmaker and head of a plant here in recent years, died early today at the home, 624 North Tenth street.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 8:30 a.m. from the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei funeral home and at 9 o'clock from the Sacred Heart church. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.

Mr. Sporer was born in Bohemia in 1866 and accompanied his parents to Manitowoc. In the early days he was a cabinet maker in the old Manitowoc Seating Company until it was destroyed by fire. Later he became a foreman in the plant of the American Seating Company here, which position he filled for 36 years.

A few years ago he established the Manitowoc Art Furniture Company on the west side. He retired two years ago. Forty-eight years ago he married Miss Anna Pilger.

Survivors are the widow; a son, Edward, of this city; two brothers, Thomas of this city, Joseph of Chicago; and one grandchild.

The body may be viewed at the funeral home.

Sporer Home on N. Tenth Street Sees Happy Celebration


Observing the fifteenth, crystal wedding anniversary of their marriage Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Sporer, North Tenth street, opened their hospitable home to two large gatherings of friends afternoon and evening, Thursday and the occasions were enjoyed. In the afternoon, Mrs. Sporer entertained lady friends and in the evening the party was joined by the gentlemen and the social pleasures incident to occasions of the kind were indulged in. Mr. and Mrs. Sporer have been resident of the city for a long term of years and are widely and favorably known. They were recipients of gifts.
