Millie Joy Dickson Meurer went home to Heaven on Saturday Sept. 28, 2013 in Hurst, Texas. Joy was born Aug. 23rd of 1930 in Iraan, Texas to Ross H. and Johnny Greer Dickson. Joy graduated salutatorian from Crane High School. She attended San Angelo Business College where she met Elton H. Meurer. They were married on Valentine's Day 1953, in San Angelo. Joy and Elton shared their life for 38 years and were blessed with four children. Even though Elton went to heaven 23 years before her, she always called him "my heart". Now she is with her Heart. Many San Angelo residents will remember Joy as the K-Mart lady with the birthmark at the service desk where she worked for 23 years. Her family will carry so many memories. Joy had a strong faith in God which showed in many ways, such as how she sheltered so many in her home when they needed a place. Good times were had at cookouts in her beautiful backyard and at meals around her crowded kitchen table. There were so many good times, so much love she shared. Joy could be counted on for her common sense wisdom she would give when asked. Joy will be missed, but her family knows that there's a celebration in Heaven right now. She truly lived up to the nickname Elton gave her ? "Joyous Joy". In later years, all of her family and most of her friends knew her as "Burmer". Joy is survived by her daughter, Molly and son-in-law Eddie Hale of Euless; sons Elton H. (Rusty) Meurer Jr. of Euless, Johnny R. Meurer and daughter-in-law Crystal of Saginaw and Jeffrey A. Meurer of Bedford; sister Merle Pettiet of Van Alstyne; brother Rev. Ross H Dickson, Jr. and wife Betty of Corsicana; sister Jean Guillory of Berwick, La.; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Honorary pall bearers will be grandsons Charlie Hale, Brian Meurer, Mark Schwartz, Mike Reyher, Johnny Meurer, and Adam Meurer. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1st in Mertzon Cemetery. Family and friends may sign an online register book at johnsons-funeralhome.com.
