He had served Immanuel Lutheran church as a part-time missionary since coming to Mankato in November of 1955. He is a 1941 graduate of the Lutheran Theological seminary, Thiensville, Wis. He was dean of men and instructor of Latin and English at Bethany college after graduation. Mr. Schaller entered the ministry of St. John’s Lutheran church, Town Helen, Glencoe, where he served for eight years. After that he served the congregations in Loveland, Colo., and Plymouth, Neb., before coming to Mankato. Mrs. Schaller is kindergarten teacher at the Immanuel Lutheran school.
He was the son of Rev. Winfred Schaller and was born April 22, 1916 in Red Wing. On June 17, 1942, he married Adelgrunde Peiper at Stillwater. Surviving him are his wife; six children, Miriam, 14, Judith, 11, Althea, 10, Deborah, 8, Peter, 6 and Andrea, 3; his father, Professor Winfred Schaller, Winnebago Lutheran high school, Fond du Lac, Wis.; one sister, Mrs. Fritz (Rose) Peterson of Seattle, Wash.; and two brothers, the Rev. Ralph Schaller, Coloma, Mich., and the Rev. Winfred Schaller, Cheyenne, Wyo.
The body will lie in state at the Harres-Smesrud-Gosewisch funeral home Monday evening and Tuesday until noon when it will be taken to the Immanuel Lutheran church where it will lie in state until the time of the service. Burial will be at the Pilgrims Rest cemetery.
