Edward Herman Molter unexpectedly left this earth on 6 February 2011. Ed was a loving and attentive father, son and brother. He leaves behind his treasured and beloved sons, Matthew Edward Molter, Mitchell Edward Molter, and Michael Edward Molter, all from Austin, Texas; all given Eddie's name. He is also survived by his parents, Donald and Betty Molter of Seguin, Texas; his brother, Mark Molter of Dallas; and his sister Kathy Molter-Wolf from California. His extended family consisting of a sister and brother in-law, nephews and nieces, along with aunts, uncles and cousins who will deeply miss his steadfast presence and mourn his untimely passing.

Eddie was born in Tacoma, Washington and raised in Seguin, Texas. He graduated from Seguin High School in 1979. He attended the University of Texas in Austin where he graduated with a BBA and a law degree, both with high honors. He was well regarded in the legal community where he worked in corporate and securities law.

In recent years Ed established the Law Firm of Miller, Egan, Molter & Nelson, with offices in both Austin and Dallas. He was known as a dedicated partner, highly regarded and well-respected in his field. As quoted by friend and partner, Tom Nelson, "While his modesty, patience, quiet demeanor and kind heart typically formed your first impression of Ed, as a transactional lawyer - his mind, legal skills and knowledge always established him as the smartest guy at the table. He was generous with his time and wisdom, and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues."

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Friday, February 11, 2011 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, located at 5455 Bee Cave Road, Westlake Hills, Texas. A reception will immediately follow on the church premises, followed by a funeral procession to Forest Oaks Memorial Park.

He divorced the former Cecilia Ann Castillo on 20 Oct 2005, mother of their three sons. Eddie tried his best never to look back on her as spouse, while never forgetting to do everything he could to continue to be the great father he was for his boys. He left them very well provided for financially, with a lot more than just their Social Security Survivor Death Benefits.

Tributes left on the site of the funeral home:

It is with heartfelt sadness that I learn of Eddie's passing. From the time that we were Seguin High School juniors in Algebra II class, we became lifelong friends. I found him to be a brilliant and funny man. Also, he was always willing to see the best in people and offer a helpful hand in time of need. May he rest in peace.

From the old days at St. James Catholic school in Seguin, TX, Eddie provided for me my first introduction to "Pop Tarts" . He would have them in his lunch box and I always wanted them!!!! Gosh, what a crazy memory. And yes, I do remember that he was always the straight A student. From what I have already read of the other emails, he was a brilliant legal scholar and an overall great and loving human being. God Bless you Eddie, and God Bless your family and brother Mark and sister Kathy and the rest of the Molter family and friends.

I was a year behind Ed (Eddie) in high school and college at UT - Austin, and we were roommates/classmates during sophomore year. There was a spirited group of friends that shared some fond memories in Seguin, San Antonio, and Austin during those years, especially on the road trips where Ed would faithfully take on the driving/navigation chores in his old Ford Granada. He was definitely a quiet genius, and after graduating 2nd in his UT law class, quickly proved himself in the business world with his brilliant legal mind. Condolences to his family, close friends, and business associates during this time.

Donald, Betty and family words cannot be found to express what you must be going through and feeling at this point but you will find the strength to march on and as time passes things will become more clear but perhaps not understandable. Just carry in your heart all the fond memories and as time permits laugh at all the fun times but above all remember your grand children need your love and attention even more so now! May God watch over you and guide you during these turbulent times! Peace be with you!

I worked with Eddie at Jones Day in Austin and Dallas. He was quiet and gentle yet one of the most brilliant people I've ever met. We had terrific summer associate outings with Eddie and his speed boat. Well, it wasn't quite a speed boat, more like a pontoon boat, but he motored us up and down the lake with such pride and style as though he were captain of the African Queen. We affectionately gave him the title "Fast Eddie" on the lake. I have very fond memories of this dear friend and colleague. He will be truly missed. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.

Eddie was the smart, tall, lanky boy that always made straight A's. In first grade we called him "Eddie Spaghetti" and upon high school graduation he was "Intellectual Ed". I am so sorry to hear of his passing. To his family, I send my deepest sympathy and wish you much future peace.

Ed served as our company's outside counsel for 10 years and represented us on several buy and sell-side transactions. Simply put, he was the best. Ed was never too busy to respond to our growing needs and was just a pleasure to deal with. While his service as a professional advisor will be sorely missed, I'll fondly remember most the friendship we developed over the years. I certainly won't forget those calls I would get every month or two to go grab lunch at Rudy's BBQ.
Wonderful man.

Ed was the most intelligent corporate lawyer with whom I er worked. On top of that, as my senior, and despite being far ahead of me in capability, he was always kind and patient, an excellent mentor. In years since we have spoken regularly about his work and his family. As a friend, he was a rare open book, refreshing. Ed loved his boys and had so many plans for them. I will miss him a lot.

I only became acquainted with Ed last year through a transaction he handled for us. I always found Ed to be very professional and to the point, but in a very positive and fair-minded way. His ability to organize transactions and keep others from drifting helped immeasurably in getting the deal done.
I am so very sorry for your loss, Ed was a good man.
