David C. Marten, age 49, of Tomah, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2005, at his mother's home in Tomah. He was born on Sept. 1, 1955, to Verlyn "Bert" and Mary (Roh) Marten in Tomah, Wisconsin. He was a 1973 graduate of Tomah Senior High School.
Dave had been employed for the past 18 years by the Tomah School District as a bus driver. He loved ""his kids," driving bus for the wrestling, football and other sports teams. The David Marten Memorial Award has been established and will be given out yearly by the Tomah Area School District Transportation Department to the bus driver who exhibits the level of dependability that Dave had shown over his 18 years of employment with the school district. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church and had a strong belief in his faith. In addition to driving bus, Dave did freelance floor installations and worked many years in the area and at Affordable Homes in Tomah.
He is survived by his mother, Mary of Tomah; a sister, Sheryl (Larry) Killen of Austin, TX; three brothers, Michael Marten, Curtis Marten and Todd (Pat) Marten, all of Tomah; niece and nephews, Adam, Amanda and Alex; aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father in 1992.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tomah. Pastor Donald Buch officiated. Burial followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah. Visitation was on Monday, May 2, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home and also on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. The Torkelson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Memorials may be given to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church or to Tomah Hospice.
