Geraldine G. Ogrodowski, 77, of Canonsburg, died Thursday, October 10, 2013, in McMurray Hills Manor.
She was born June 27, 1936, in Canonsburg, a daughter of Frank and Genevieve Topka Ogrodowski.
Ms. Ogrodowski served her country in the Air Force as a captain during the Vietnam War.
She was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Parish, Canonsburg.
Prior to her retirement, Ms. Ogrodowski worked as a registered nurse. She was a graduate of Canonsburg Hospital School of Nursing and then went on to graduate study at John Hopkins University, where she also worked.
She also worked at Allegheny General Hospital with Dr. George McGovern, performing heart transplants. During her nursing career, Ms. Ogrodowski worked at Mercy and Allegheny General hospitals, St. Francis as a nurse perfusionist and at Presbyterian SeniorCare.
She enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles and doing word search puzzles.
Surviving are her sisters, Phyllis Loughry and husband William of Cecil, Thomasina Vallejo and husband,Dr. Manuel of Canonsburg and Rose Marie Lewicki and husband Joseph of North Strabane Township; nephews William (Deyka) Loughry, Luis (Lucho) Vallejo, Dr. Manuel C. (Susan) Vallejo, Rodrigo Vallejo, Joseph Lewicki, Frank Lewicki, John Lewicki and Jason Lewicki; great-nieces and great-nephews Alexander Vallejo, Anna Vallejo, Haley Vallejo, Desiree Belleno, Antonio Vallejo, Mariah Johnson, William Loughry Jr., Destiny Hayman, Heather Loughry, Austin Loughry and Shane Loughry; and her dear friend, Sandy Craig.
She also leaves her loved dog, Allie.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, is her brother, Frank Ogrodowski.
Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Sollon Funeral Home Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, J. David Sollon, supervisor, Phillip L. Sollon, director. A blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 16, in the funeral home. Interment will follow at 11 a.m. in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full military rites accorded by the combined honor guards of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 and American Legion Post 902.
