Obituary of Mrs. Otto Riss
Funeral services were conducted from the Huff Funeral Home in Staples Saturday afternoon, January 26, at two o'clock for Mrs. Otto Riss, 81, who died at the Staples Municipal hospital at 2:47 'clock the afternoon of January 23. Her death was attributed to complications due to her advanced age.
Mrs. Riss was born Mathilda Pauline Eva Poltrock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Poltrock on March 18, 1870 in Germany. When a young girl she came to this country.
On January 4, 1890 she was united in marriage to Otto Riss at Dubuque, Iowa. They moved to the Leader vicinity in 1904 and had since made their home in that community. She was an active member of the Lutheran church as long as her health permitted.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J.M. Amundson, pastor of the Swan Valley church of Leader and First English Lutheran church in Staples. Assisting him with music were Mrs. Leroy Backerg and Mrs. John Sperley.
Burial was made in the Evergreen Hill cemetery of Staples with Raymond Riggs, Orville Shannon, Walter C. Peterson, Alfred and Linfred Hanson and Ludwig Stol as casketbearers.
Mrs. Riss is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Hilda Ross of Minneapolis, Mrs. Ella Hauge of Waldport, Oregon, Mrs, Frances Patterson and Mrs. Margaret Kral both of Leader.. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, besides two brothers, Albert Poltrock of Chicago, Ill., and Franz Poltrock living in Germany. All of the children except Mrs. Hauge were here for the final rites.
