On Sept. 21, 1947 he married Jeanne Deere at Kennedy. They settled in Skane Township of Kittson County and farmed there. Robert served with the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953.
Robert was active in the Kennedy community, serving as a director and former President of the Lions Club, of which he was a charter member. He also served on the Kennedy Elevator board and was chairman of the Skane Township board up until the time of his death.
Family members include his wife Jeanne; a son, James (Janel) Dahl, Kennedy; a daughter, Janna Davis also Kennedy; grandchildren, Lindsay, Nancy, Lauren, Shannon and Brett; brothers, Byron (Betsy) Dahl, Kennedy and John (Elizabeth) Dahl, Apple Valley; a sister, Carol Tews, Springfield; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marian Edgett; a son-in-law, Allan Davis; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Louis and Dorothy Deere.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 2004 in Maria Lutheran Church, Kennedy. Interment was in the Kennedy City Cemetery. Rev. Barb Hansen, presided. Special music, Shannon Dahl, soloist, Leroy Hoekstra, soloist, Charles and Patti Swanson, duet and Ruth Hoekstra, organist. Pallbearers were Conrad Dahl, Peter Dahl, Stephen Edgett, William Edgett, David Dahl, Charles Tews, Paul Tews, Richard Deere, Mark Lundberg, Kelly Mattson and Thomas Deere.
