Raymond Cornelius Sargent, 86, of seaside, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, in Seaside.
Mr. Sargent was born April 9, 1918 to Augustus (sic: Austin T.) and Vesta McGregor (sic: Raymond: McGregor is her mother's maidian name) Sargent in Weiser (sic: Boise), Idaho.
When he was 16, he moved to Seaside after his mother remarried to Fredrick J. Miller. While in Seaside, the family owned and operated a nursing home.
Mr. Sargent married Marjorie K. Crum. She preceded him in death.
He worked at Astoria Plywood Mill for 25 years before retiring at the age of 55. He was an active member of the Sons of the Legions and was involved with the Moose Heart and Moose Haven.
Mr. Sargent did community service through the Moose Lodge and was voted governor of the lodge from 1982 to 1983. He enjoyed big band music, playing shuffleboard and traveling.
He is survived by three daughters, Sheri Kelso of Seaside, Doris Brunswick of Gaston and Sandra Sargent of Seaside; and a son, Larry Sargent.
A memorial reception will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Hughes-Ransom Cremation & Mortuaries in Seaside.
