Helen Elaine Pepper passed away on Friday May 9, 2008, at the Albany Medical Center. She was born February 27, 1929, the daughter of Marion Rathbun Fuller and Samuel Fuller. She grew up on a dairy farm in the beautiful valley of Welch Hollow where she learned how to milk cows and drive the tractor. Helen graduated from Fort Ann Central School and then started her first job at the Glens Falls Insurance Co.; then at the General Electric Co in the Key punch department. Her favorite job was being post mistress of the North Granville Post Office for twenty years where she made many new friends.
Helen enjoyed feeding and watching her beautiful birds, cross stitch and reading novels. She also enjoyed her dog, Rudy, for 19 years. Her favorite day was Sunday and going to Church to see her special friends. Helen looked forward to each church dinner and the cutting and serving of pies.
Her favorite great niece, Shaye Anna, her "sweet pea" will always be her shining star. She enjoyed playing with her, and was very proud to see Shaye Anna take her first Communion at church. Being an advocate for Linda and Franny Paige was an important part of her life.
Helen lived in Middle Granville and then moved to a beautiful apartment on the Hadlock Pond Road. During these years she took a special interest in watching her son Jeffrey and his cousins David and Michelle grow up. Helen looked forward to birthdays and holidays to make her famous macaroni and cheese.
Helen was a member of the West Fort Ann United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women's group and the Queen Ann Senior Citizens. She also helped this organization grow. Helen enjoyed many bus trips with the Seniors of Granville. For many years she was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Middle Granville and also attended services at the All Saints Chapel in North Granville.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Hermon Pepper, sister Virginia Eldridge, nephew Randy Eldridge, sister-in-law Alice Pepper, brother-in-law Lynn Pepper and George Davies.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Pepper, and friend Barb Polucci; a sister, Joan Degener, and her husband Edward; brother Harold Fuller and Beverly; sister-in- law Marjorie Pepper and Phyllis Davies; a brother in law, Reverend Donald Pepper. She also has many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Honoring Helen's wishes, a private funeral service will be held at the Robert M. King Funeral Home at 23 Church Street in Granville with the Rev. Donald Pepper officiating. Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service for Helen at the West Fort Ann United Methodist Church on the Copeland Pond Road on Sunday, May 18, at 2 p.m. with the Pastor Rodger White and the Rev. Donald Pepper co-officiating.
