Donald Paul Emmerling, 79, of Taylorville died at 8:54 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008, in St. Francis Hospital, Peoria.
He was born October 29, 1928, in Spring Valley, IL, the son of Jack Anthony and Ruth Hammond Emmerling. He was a 1948 graduate of Stonington High School. He married Bettie Blakeman in August 1948 in Stonington. She preceded him in death on July 15, 2000. Mr. Emmerling was the retired co-owner of Neikes Floor Covering and was a driver for Bob Ridings Ford. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Moose Lodge.
Surviving are his daughter, Susan (husband Steve) Unser of Taylorville; grandchildren: Jennifer (husband Joey) Cavatorta, Melissa (husband Matt) Repscher, and Erik (wife Sarah) Robinson, all of Taylorville; great-grandchildren: Cole and Lydia Repscher and Sophia Robinson; brother, Mick (wife Pat) Emmerling of Taylorville; brother-in-law, Kenny Blakeman of Las Vegas, NV; sister-in-law, Jimmie Emmerling of Taylorville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Frank Neikes; wife; daughter, Donna Robinson; son-in-law, Joe Robinson; and brother, John "Bud" Emmerling.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 4, at Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, with Father Alan Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Taylorville.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 4, at Sutton Memorial Home.
