Donald Kenneth Schwager Sr. of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at his home. He was 92 years old.

Donald was born on April 25, 1921 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late William Edward and Hattie (Grose) Schwager. He married Ruby Murphy on January 8, 1947.

Don graduated high school and then was drafted into the United States Army on August 27, 1942. He honorably served during World War II, where he also met his future wife, Ruby who was a nurse. He then went on to work for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier retiring after many years of dedicated service. Don was a member of the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Ruby; six children: Don Schwager, Jr. of London, England, Mark Timothy Schwager and special friend, Ellen of Saginaw, Phillip Clayton Schwager of Saginaw, Gregory Murphy Schwager of Saginaw, Deborah Ann Scherer of Ypsilanti, and Bryce Andrew Schwager and his wife, Margot of Ypsilanti; 11 grandchildren: Neil, Kim, Kelly, Beth, Brianna, Christian, Lisa, Jon, Jenny, Michael and Matthew; 12 great-grandchildren; twin sister, Donna; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 14 month old brother, Jerome; older brother, Cyril; and older sister, Mary.

A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 12:00 noon on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption, 615 Hoyt Ave. Rev. Fr. Andy Booms will officiate. Rite of Committal will take place at St. Andrew Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of VFW Post #1859.

Friends are welcome to visit at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Also on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m., the family will hold a time of sharing at the funeral home—all are welcome. Donald will lie in state at the church on Thursday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
