WAYNE, Neb. -- Orletha Bierschenk, 94, of Wayne died Monday, April 18, 2005, at Matney's Colonial Manor in South Sioux City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne, with the Rev. William Koeber officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today at Schumacher-Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne.
Orletha Christina, the daughter of John and Elsie (Trost) Henningsen, was born March 4, 1911, in Yutan, Neb. She graduated from Yutan High School, then worked as a hired girl for John Dinklage.
She married Ernest "Sam" Bierschenk on Dec. 12, 1931, at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha. The couple farmed in the Randolph and Pender, Neb., area until 1954, when they purchased a restaurant in South Sioux City which they operated until 1957. They then moved to Omaha, where she was employed at a motel. They retired to Pender, Neb., in 1972, and in 1981 moved to Wayne. Following her husband's death, she moved to South Sioux City.
She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and enjoyed dancing and cooking.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Charlotte and Emmett Witt of Bancroft, Neb., Faye and Gordon Jorgensen of Dakota City and Marilyn Millard of Valentine, Neb.; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest "Sam" in 1994; a sister, Caroline; and a son-in-law, Paul Millard.
