Richard K. Gladis, 66, passed away Friday morning at his home in Pardeesville after succumbing to a longterm battle with cancer. Born in Hazleton, Richard joins his mother, Anna Stefko; father, Steven; and brother, Steven T. Gladis, in eternal rest.
Richard was a veteran of the Army Reserve and was of the Catholic faith. He was employed for many years as a teamster by Silver Line Trucking, West Hazleton, before striking out on his own in 1980 as RMR Enterprises (Trucking) and was last employed by Franzosa Trucking.
Most recently, retired and immersed in his automotive pastime, Richard was better known to area car hobbyists as "Mustang Richie," owing to his own prowess of that particular car model. He was a lifelong resident of the Hazleton area, and a motorcycle enthusiast, where he was a social member of the Flying Aces Motorcycle Club, Rockport. In 1964, Richie first became enamored of the newly released Ford Mustang and had pursued his passion for that model throughout the years. From car shows to race tracks, he was a Mustang devotee and was also a wellknown figure at the Carlisle semi-annual Ford car shows. His presence will be greatly missed and his two dogs, Bullitt and Sapphire, and his cat, Poncho, were at his side and will miss him also.
His funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from Hilary J. Bonin Funeral Home, 99 W. Green St., West Hazleton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church, WestHazleton. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Slovak Cemetery, Hazleton. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to either Hospice of the Sacred Heart or the Hazleton Animal Shelter.
