Oscar Lee Cartwright Jan. 11, 1938 - June 3, 2010
A resident of Alameda, California, Oscar Lee Cartwright was born in January 11, 1938 to Ulysses S. Cartwright and Vivian L. Gill in Holly Grove, Arkansas. He graduated from Holly Grove Vocational School at the age of 17 and joined the Navy soon after he turned 18. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam War.

While on active duty, he met his future wife, Delia, in the Philippines. They married in October 1969 and settled in Alameda, California in 1970. Their three daughters, Dellie, Heather, and Bonnie were born at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland and were raised in Alameda. After 20 years of dedicated service, Oscar retired from the Navy in October 1976. He later worked as a Security Guard at the Navy Exchange at the Naval Air Station Alameda (NAS) until it was closed in 1997.

Oscar loved and was loved by his family and friends. His favorite sports were wrestling and boxing. His hobbies included fishing, reading, photography, calligraphy, crossword puzzles and watching his favorite judge and reality TV shows. He was also very fond of his cats.

Oscar passed away on June 3, 2010 after years of impaired health. He is survived by his wife, his daughters, his mother, his sister Beatrice Phillips and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

A viewing was held at Greer Family Mortuary, 2694 Blanding Avenue, Alameda, on Wednesday, June 9th, 2010, with a Parlor Service following. A private interment was held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California.
