He enlisted in the National Army 20 Sept 1917 at Toledo OH. Walter served in Co D 329 Infantry to 9 Jan 1918; Bakery Company 2 to Discharge. Walter served as a Private, first class 1 Nov 1917; Corporal 17 March 1918; and Sergeant Quartermaster Corps 30 May 1918. He was part of the American Expeditionary Forces 13 June 1918 to 25 June 1919. Honorably discharged 7 July 1919.
