Funeral services for Bertha Marie McCauley Hartfiel, 87, of Rosenberg, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Rosenberg, with interment following at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. The Rev. George Kuebler will officiate the services. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3900 B.F. Terry Boulevard, FM 118 and Highway 59, in Rosenberg.

She was born Aug. 30, 1912 in Bay City to Ralph B. and Sallie McCauley, and she passed away Monday, Nov. 15, 1999.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover; a brother, R.C. McCauley; her only grandson, Lee Weston Wooten; and her parents, Ralph and Sallie McCauley.

At the time of her death, she was a resident of Brazosview Healthcare Center in Richmond. She was a lifetime resident of Fort Bend Bend County.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Kay Wooten and her husband, Lawson, of Richmond; one granddaughter, Selaura Lanee Evans and her husband, Cody, of Needville; one great-grandson, Cameron Evans; one sister, Opal Teykl of Needville; a brother-in-law, H.O. Harfiel of Rosenberg; a sister-in-law, Mary McCauley of Neeville; and many nieces, nephews, and other friends and relatives.

She was a charter member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Rosenberg where she was active in Sunday School and women's organizations. She attended business college and worked for the Wendel Insurance Agency in Richmond for several years.

A 50-year member and past president of the Fort Bend County Homemakers Extension Club, she was an active participant in the Fort Bend County Fair sewing and culinary departments. One of the first Girl Scout leaders in Rosenberg she was instrumental in raising funds for the first Girl Scout House in Travis Park. Her home was a haven for homeless animals and neighborhood children.

Pallbearers are Louis Darrell Teykl, Jean Allen Hartfiel, Don Allen Hartfiel, Buck Holtkamp, Gilbert Duesterhoft, and Buddy Anderson. Honorary pallbearers are H.O. Hartfiel and Bolivar Snedecor.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at Brazosview for their care and kindness.
