He was born on January 4th, 1926 on a farm near Brandon, Iowa, the son of the late Henry and Ella Stirm. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mabel and two brothers, Ralph and Clyde Stirm. On August 21, 1954 he married Kathryn Lenz in Hillcrest Heights, MD. She survives.
He is survived by three children, Brian H. (Judy) Stirm, Nadine LS (Dr. Ronald) Sheppard and Randall M. (Vicki) Stirm; five grandchildren, Zachary, Alexa and Parker Sheppard and Taylor and Brenton Stirm; sister, Dorothy Boldt; brother, Marlin Stirm and many nieces and nephews.
He served as a 38 year career employee with the National Weather Service. After retirement from the Weather Service in 1987 he was self-employed as an assistant to the Delphi Airport Manager and as a volunteer for the Purdue University Visitors Information Center.
He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps, 20th Air Force 101st Weather Wing during World War II and five years with the Navy Defense Department from 1952-1956. He received include a World War II victory Medal.
