Ronald B. Nehring, Alma, Kansas, passed away Nov. 9, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, KS.
Ron was born Nov. 15, 1936 at the family farm on Nehring Branch, the son of Arnold B. and Delma Diel Nehring. He graduated from District 83, Lone Cedar and Alma High School in 1954 and joined the Navy in 1956 where he was a blimp crewman, patrolling the waters of southern Florida and Cuba.
He met and married Nolene Altman Conley and took her daughters, Ruthie and Sherrie as his own. They returned to Kansas where in addition to working the family farm and running a dairy, Ron worked for various employers including Farmer's Union Co-op, Bit O'Gold Cheese, Goodyear and Fort Riley, where he retired.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold E. Nehring. Left to mourn him are his children, Ruthie (Frank) Horner of Allen, TX, Sherrie Krieser of Wichita, KS, and Rhonda Nehring (Gregory Capoun) of Alma; sisters, Dixie (Marvin E.) Smith of San Antonio, TX, Dianne Farabi (Rich Butchko) of Dublin, OH; sister-in-law Ruth Nehring, Wamego, KS; seven grand and great-grandchildren; Aunt Betty (Robert D.) Gott; former wives Nolene (Ralph) McHugh, Manhattan, KS and Betty Nehring, Caney, KS; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ron loved restoring and tinkering with John Deere tractors, making home-brew and wine, gardening, right-wing political discussions, restoring old ice cream freezers and then putting them to good use. His great sense of humor was enjoyed by many and earned him the nickname "Ronery" by the staff at the hospice house.
Services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Peace United Church of Christ, Alma, KS with luncheon to follow. The family will receive visitors Thursday evening from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Peace Church.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice House or the Heifer Project and sent in care of Rhonda Nehring, 22727 Nehring Branch Rd., Alma, KS 66401.
