Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Tuesday, April 15, 1975, page 6:
  Edward John Helmich, 89, former president of the Troy Savings and Loan Association and past president of the Troy Fire District, died Monday in St. Joseph's Hospital, Highland.
  Mr. Helmich served at the savings and loan for 25 years, first as secretary from 1941 until 1948. He then served as director and later president until his retirement in 1966.
  He also was the head of the city's fire district for 16 years before retiring in 1973.
  Mr. Helmich was born April 13, 1886, in Pin Oak Township, a son of the late William and Wilhelmina Hampe Helmich. He was married to Emma Rossbach on Nov. 12, 1907. She died May 25, 1967.
  Sons Orville Helmich of St. Louis and Burnell Helmich of Park Ridge survive, as do six grandchildren. Five brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
  Mr. Helmich, a barber for more than 50 years, served as Troy City Clerk for six years. He was a Troy volunteer fireman for more than 50 years and served as chief 17 years.
  Mr. Helmich was also a church officer at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Troy, for 15 years.
  Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home, Troy.  A service by the Troy Volunteer Firemen will be held at 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
  Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Jack Amen of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
