W. Kenneth Wilke

W. Kenneth Wilke, 60, 3242 Plass, was dead on arrival at a Topeka hospital early Sunday afternoon. He apparently had a heart attack.
Mr. Wilke was mayor of Topeka from 1951 to 1953 and served during the aftermath of the Kansas River flooding in July 1951.

He was president of the Kansas Homestead Rehabilitation Corporation and had been elected in 1975 to the board of directors of Southwest State Bank.

He was born Aug. 22, 1917, at McPherson and lived in Topeka since 1933. He was a graduate of Washburn University and was graduated in 1941 from WU's School of Law.
Mr. Wilke was an attorney and had practiced in Topeka since 1941. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a captain of an aircraft battalion.
He was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church, Orient Lodge No. 54, AF&AM, Kansas Bar Association, Topeka Bar Association, and the Lawyers Club. He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 204 and had been a member of the Elks bowling team many years.

He was married to Nancy Howell Aug. 26, 1939, in Topeka. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Kenneth M. Wilke, 2900 Moundview Drive; a sister, Miriam Wilke, Topeka; and a granddaughter.

Graveside services for relatives are scheduled at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home.
Mr. Wilke will lie in state from 5 p.m. Monday until noon Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas Heart Association, 5229 W. 7th, 66606.
