Pvt Grover T. Kinne, son of Clair Kinne of Gladwin, is stationed with Company C, 61st Battalion, 13th Regiment, at Camp Fannin, Texas. Gladwin County Record 7/19/1944

Mrs. Grover Kinne, of Gladwin, sends in this bit of verse written by a soldier buddy of her husband Pvt. Grover Kinne, who is somewhere in Germany.

A Soldier’s Prayer
I never dreamed when leaving home.
To take part in this war of just how much I’d miss you,
How I’d miss you more and more.
In dreams I see your smiling face Your lovely golden hair,
I dream about your wonderous arms And wish I were there.
I seem to feel your goodnight kiss So warm—so full of feeling--
It brings you—Oh! So close to me. It starts my senses reeling
May the good Lord up in heaven Grant that I—who am at war
Will return home to my loved ones And be happy evermore.

(UNCONFIRMED - Citation Needed): Grover T. Kinne, United States Army, is reported to have been awarded the Silver Star under the below-listed General Orders for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 79th Infantry Division during World War II.

Grover T. Kinne, 91, of Midland, died Friday morning, Sept. 3, 2010, at the Toni & Trish House
He was born on Feb. 3, 1919, in Gladwin County, son of the late Clair and LuRene (Coffell) Kinne. He married the former Addie Caroline Currie on April 27, 1940. Grover served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a sergeant mortar gunner 607, and received the EAME Theatre World War II Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Silver Star Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge and the World War II Victory Medal. Grover grew up in Gladwin and worked as the superintendent of grounds for the Midland Country Club. Grover was an avid deer hunter who loved hunting with his wife and sons at their hunting cabin in Wolverine, and was a member of the LaPorte Methodist Church
