He was born on March 29, 2015 to Oliver and Alice (Willard) Bales in Thomasville, MO. He was an Army Veteran and was stationed in France during World War II where he was awarded The Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and many other medals. He was honorably discharged due to combat injuries in 1945. Willard worked in local gas stations for over 32 years. He was married to Hazel Lee who preceded him in death in 1969. On April 3, 1993 he married Olive R. Ford in Poplar Bluff MO.
He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff.
Willard is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 22 years, Olive; four sons, Ron (Paula) Bales of Dyersburg, TN, Eric Walker of Arnold, MO, Bobby (Carol) Walker of Poplar Bluff, MO, and Dwayne Walker of Poplar Bluff, MO; one daughter, Rose (Dan) Ford of Clever, MO; one son-in-law, Eugene McKay of Beebe, AR; two sisters, Jo Williams and Ellen Morris both of Thomasville, MO; two brothers, Bill (JoAnn) Bales of West Plains, MO and Jack (Marge) Bales of High Ridge, MO; and 11 grandkids, 25 great-grandkids, and 1 great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy McKay; two brothers, Don and John Bales; and his parents.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2015, 6:00-8:00 pm at Westwood Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Church with Pastor Steve Proctor officiating. Burial will take place in the VA Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO.
