Leona E. Heber

A mass of Christian burial for Leona E. Heber, 77, Redfield, was held Tuesday, Oct. 18, 1994, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Zell, with Father Joe Short officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Zell. The Thelen Funeral Home, Redfield, was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were all her grandchildren: Tony Fink, Tim Fink, Perry Fink, Pamela Fink, Scott Heber, Shane Heber, Patrick Heber, Sara Heber, Sadie Heber, Sally Heber, Matthew Heber, Troy Heber, Susan Hansen, Justin Hansen and Jordan Hansen.

Mrs. Heber died Saturday, Oct. 15, 1994, of cancer at her home in Redfield.

She was born Feb. 21, 1917, in Spink County to William and Ida (Schmidt) Hardie. She graduated from Redfield High School.

She married Frank Heber July 3, 1937, at Pierre, and lived all her life in the Zell area. She served as food director at Mountain Eleven country school near Zell, was employed at the Ben Franklin Store, Redfield, and worked as bookkeeper at the Farmers Elevator, Zell, 20 years, retiring in 1991. She moved to the village of Redfield in July, 1994.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters and St. Mary's Altar Society. She was an "avid card player and sports fan" and earned the gratitude of many relatives for the efforts she devoted "to compiling family history books for the Hardie, Schmit and Heber families."

Survivors include three sons: William, Loveland, Colo., Robert Heber, Howard Lake, Minn., and Roger Heber, Ft. Gibson, Okla.; two daughters: Mrs. Harold (Bonnie) Fink, Cottage Grove, Minn., and Mrs. Terry (brenda) Hansen, Redfield, one sister: Ruby Gruenwald, Zell; one sister-in-law: Alice Hardie, Redfield: and 15 grandchldren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank, one brotehr, W. V. (Junior) Hardie, and one grandson, Steven Heber.
