Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Tuesday, March 26, 1963, page 1:
   Henry A. Buhrmester, 77, who retired June 19, 1954 after concluding 25 years in Edwardsville in the paint business, died Monday at 8:20 p.m. at St. Joseph Hospital, Alton, after a lingering illness. He resided with his wife, Emma, at 116 West Franklin Ave.
   Mr. Buhrmester, who worked in and around Troy in the paint and contractor business until 1929, moved to Edwardsville that year and entered the retail and wholesale wallpaper and paint business at 224 North Main St. with two lifelong St. Louis friends, P.M. McNitt and Ray Rutherford. The firm at that time, and until 1938 when the partnership was dissolved, was known as McNitt Wallpaper and Paint Co.
   Mr. Buhrmester was in the 224 North Main St. store for 13 years, and in 1942 he moved to 138 North Main St.  In August, 1949 the present site at 201 North Second St. was purchased. In January, 1953 Mr. Buhrmester took his son, Lester, into the firm as a partner and on July 1, 1954 he sold out his share of the business to his son.
   He was a former member of the Lions club and Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a past chairman of the Trustees of Immanuel Methodist church and past member of the church board. His son, Lester, is present chairman of the Trustees.
   Son of Carl and Johanna Hampe Buhrmester, he was born Sept. 29, 1885 in Troy. He was married to Emma Carter on Sept. 24, 1907 by the late Rev. H.U. Rahn.
   Surviving in addition to his wife and son, are a daughter, Mrs. Wilbur (Naomi) Neubauer, Edwardsville; four sisters, Mrs. Anna Deck of Stillwater, Okla., Mrs. Martha Lyons of Troy, Mrs. John (Emma) Osborn of Lodi, Calif., and Mrs. Bertha McCain, Collinsville; and two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a son, three brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter.
   Friends may call this evening after 7 o'clock at the Weber funeral home until 11 a.m. Thursday. Final rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday from Immanuel Methodist church with interment in Valley View Garden of Memory. The Rev. Robert R. Hollis will officiate.

Pallbearers were Ed Volz, Dale Rayburn, Arthur C. Moeller, E.H. Cheney, A.G. Kriege, Elmer Kriege.
