Dr. William Abraham Haskell was born on June 22, 1845 in Hillsboro, Montgomery County, Illinois to Abraham Sumner & Helen E. (Parkhurst) Haskell.
He received his early eduction in Hillsboro Academy. He prepared for college at Franklin Military School in Boston, and then became a student at Harvard, where he graduated in 1866. He continued studies in the medical department at Harvard where he graduated in 1869. He then began medical practice in Edwardsville, Illinois in the same year. In 1870 he moved to Alton, IL. He served as surgeon in charge of St. Joseph's Hospital for many years.
He married Florence Ellen Hayner, daughter of John E. & Laura E. (Scott) Hayner on July 17,1877 in Alton, IL. They had 3 children John Abraham, Lucy Jane, and Florence Helen Haskell.
Dr. Haskell was prominent in Masonic circles and up to the time that ill health forced him to give up all other activities, he was a leader in the work of that fraternity in all it's branches in Alton.
He died on July 13, 1916 at his residence on Friday morning, he had been unconscious all of Thursday night.
