Edwin Frank Kaluza, 87, of El Campo, died March 6, 2010. He was born Oct. 8, 1922 in Weimar to Peter Louis and Agnes Sugarek Kaluza. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as a corporal. He was a member of the KJT and American Legion Post 251 and was a retired farmer and carpenter.

He is survived by his sister, Cecilia "Tillie" Smaistrla of El Campo, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Bernice Kaluza; sisters, Marcella Makinen and Lydia Siems; and brothers, Fred, Alfons and Willie Kaluza.

Visitation was held at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 7 with a parish Rosary at 6 p.m. at Triska Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 8 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church with the Rev. Augustine Asante officiating. Burial with military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post 251 followed at the Holy Cross Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers were Roy Smaistrla, Garry Bram, Glen Kaluza, Gary Kaluza, Brian Dybala and David Dybala. Honorary bearers were his nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Philip Catholic Church or to Houston-Hospice El Campo.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Triska Funeral Home, El Campo.
