After graduating from high school in Vermillion, SD, Marie earned a teaching certificate from Presentation College in Mitchell, SD and later a bachelor's degree in education from the University of South Dakota. In December of 1945, she married Otto Muhlenkort. Together they farmed in Lincoln County, SD for over 40 years. For nearly as many years, she taught in area elementary schools. She was proud of both her vocations as farmer's wife and teacher. Through those years she also cherished her membership in the Pleasant Study Club.
In life, Marie's strong faith in God sustained.her. She was an active member of St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford, where she sang in the choir, volunteered, and was a member of Catholic Daughters of America. After moving to New Braunfels, TX in 2006, she was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels.
Marie was preceded in death by Otto, her beloved husband, and by nine sisters and brothers. She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (Paul) Dailey of New Braunfels, TX and Mary Lee Luskin of Bloomington, IN; one grandson, Charles Luskin of Seoul, South Korea; eleven nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A Wake Service will be held at 7:00 pm December 27, 2013 and a Funeral Mass will be said at 10:00 am on December 28, 2013. Both services will be at St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Beresford, SD.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Beresford Foundation, 106 West Main, Beresford, SD 57004.
