“Frank ‘Dutch’ Liibs Takes Own Life” “All of Pike county was sadly shocked when the word was passed out that Frank ‘Dutch’ Liibs, one of the best known business men of Petersburg, was dead.”
“Frank died in the Harris Ambulance enroute to the hospital from a self-inflicted 22 caliber pistol wound at 7:20 pm Sunday evening.”
“Frank, who was born in Petersburg, and grew up in the bakery and confection business his father established in 1886, continued the business in the same location on Main Street after his father’s death in the fall of 1932.”
“He had helped his father in the business during his childhood and began working steady at the age of 17 during World War I. In 1949 he discontinued the baker but continued with the confectionery and began serving lunches. His place was known as Liibs and was popular with the general public. Especially so with the business and professional personal who stopped in two or three times a day for cofee breaks and to greet their friends and discuss the affairs of the community and country.”
“Frank Liibs was born December 19, 1901, a son of William F (who came to this country from Oldenburg, Germany, at the age of 16) and Amelia Ohler Liibs.”
“He was married to the former Olive Rathfon who had been his constant companion, working along beside him in the business. He was a member of Main Street Presbyterian Church.”
