Charlotte V. Nelson, 94, of Rockford,left this life and went to be with her family and friends in heaven on Saturday, June 18, 2011. She lived a long and fulfilling life of 94 years when she passed away of natural causes. Charlotte was born April 28, 1917, to Ella & Emil Hellman in Hesper, Iowa. She married Elmer Nelson on Dec 2, 1967, in Rockford, and they were happily married for 44 years. She had a daughter from a previous marriage, Betty Parks, who preceded her in death in 1992. She has a grandson, John (Laura) Stanton, who lives in California, and she loved him with all the love in her soul. John and Laura blessed her with a great-granddaughter, Shynell, whom she loved and adored with all of her heart. Charlotte worked for Badger Ordnance in Baraboo, Wis., during World War II and eventually laid roots in Rockford, where she spent many years cooking and catering for others. She enjoyed entertaining, laughing and life in general. Her motto was "take it day by day and live each of them to the fullest." She is survived by her husband, Elmer, sister Emma, special friends,Edie, Ruth & Faye; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Special thank you to her guardian angel, Hanne, who helped her spend the last leg of her life just the way she wanted to, at home. Service at 11 a.m. Friday June 24, in Olson Funeral Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., with Pastor Dennis Blaser officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thurs. June 23 in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Women's Auxilliary at Tabor Lutheran Church, 2233 12th Ave., Rockford, IL 61104.
