One of northeastern Wyoming's earliest settlers-Christian J. Hepp of Kearney- was dead today after nearly three-score years of homesteading and ranching in Johnson county.
Mr. Hepp, 78 years old, came to Wyoming when he was but 19 years of age, died late yesterday at the United States veterans administration hospital at Fort Mackenzie after a lingering illness. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American war.
The pioneer, who had been retired for several years, was a native of Germany. In addition to his widow, Mrs. Rosa Hepp, he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Rosa Olson and Mrs. Laura Benson, both of Big Horn; Mrs. Elsie Gray and Mrs. Clara White, both of Buffalo; one son, Carl Hepp of Kearney, and by 20 grandchildren. One daughter and one son preceded him in death.
Mr. Hepp first came to Wyoming in 1876 and two years later became a homesteader on Little Piney creek.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the Story community hall. The Reed mortuary will be in charge of the services, and interment will be at Kearney.
