DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Edgar E. Vaske, 102, of Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade, formerly of Dyersville, died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, at the care center, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Jerry Kopacek officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m.

He was born on Feb. 27, 1903, in New Vienna, son of Clemens and Rosa (Koopman) Vaske.

He married Louise Kelchen on Feb. 4, 1934 in St. Paul's Catholic Church, Worthington. Together they celebrated 67 years of marriage.

They farmed near Winthrop until 1946, and then in Dyersville, until their retirement.

In his past time, Edgar enjoyed hunting and fishing and old farm machinery.

Surviving are three daughters, Joan Milder, of Davenport, Betty (Tom) White, of Bernard, and Karen (Frank) O'Hara, of Omaha, Neb.; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Inez Schultz, of Dubuque; a brother, Raymond Vaske, of Dyersville; and three sisters-in-law, Marie Kronlage, of Farley, Mildred Foxen, of Earlville, and Florence Kelchen, of Ryan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, in 2002; five brothers, Hugh, Fr. Martin O., Alphonse, Lawrence and Vincent Vaske; a sister, Minnie Carrol; and a son-in-law, Maurice Milder.

Memorials may be given to St. Francis Xavier Basilica.
