Nancy C. Blevins was born in June of 1853 and was the eldest daughter of the late Morris and Lucinda Blevins. According to family tradition, she got pregnant at 16 years-old by a Mr. Hawkins. He was a young man of Melungeon descent who was told to disappear and never knew his child.
Nancy, in turn, is said to have had a relatively strained relationship with her son, Hampton, that was partially reconciled sometime after he married, Janey Farmer, and kept a close relationship with their children and grandchildren as a result.
Burial was at the Byars Cemetery on June 8th.
