Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct 21 at St. James Catholic Church in Minnewaukan. Rev. Julius Armbruster, O.S.B. will be celebrant and interment will be in the St. James Catholic Cemetery.
Scripture service will be held at the Burke Funeral Chapel, Devils Lake, on Wednesday evening at 8 p.m.
Active pallbearers will be six grandsons, Darrel, Rodney, Terry, Duane and Dennis Smith of Tokio and curtis Smith of Portland, Ore. Honorary pallbearers will be all the men at the service.
Marko Medved was born Feb. 28, 1885 in Yugoslavia to Ante and Bare Medved. He came to the United States in 1901 and worked on the East Coast, Canada and Minnesota before coming to North Dakota. He married Olivia Johnson at Minnewaukan on Aug. 17, 1922 and lived most of his life on a farm in Benson County before moving to Portland, Ore. to live with his daughters.
Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Irene Smith and Mrs. Walter (Magdalen) Rock of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Wilma Thoreson of Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Stanley (Dorothy) Morgan of Akron, Ind., Mrs. Margaret Bartel of Miami, Fla. and Mrs. Howard (Frances) Smith of rural Sheyenne; 39 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; one brother, Mile Medved; and one sister, Dora Salopeh of Yugoslavia.
He was preceded in death by his wife Olivia; daughter, Kathleen Haine; two infant daughters; one infant son; his parents; two brothers; and four sisters.
